Master Gato Preto
Master Gato Preto was born in Santo Amaro da Purificação, on the 19th of March in 1929. He began capoeira at eight years old and lived together with many its greatest proponents, but was never graduated or ranked in the conventional way. "Capoeira never stops," he says. He has always been an excellent capoeirista of incredible agility.
Since 1966, when he participated in the Brazilian delagation for the first International Festival of African Arts, in Dakar(Senegal), he became a traveling embassador of capoeira, having visited many countries passing along his knowledge. He was celebrated in in several works by Jorge Amado.
Master Gato Preto one of the most requested berimbau players in Bahia Um dos mais requisitados tocadores de berimbau de toda a Bahia, Mestre Gato Preto is also one of the most well liked figures in capoeira, thanks in no small part to the strength of his character.
